Problems importing a publishing site

description

Hi, I'm trying to understand how best to deploy content from a publishing site to a separate farm and using "Retain Object IDs and Locations"

I understand that when importing content, the site template needs to be the same (so I have to create the destination site collection using the "Publishing portal" template (which matches my source content template). This template obviously has a number of items already present within it.

However, when I try to import my content, I get an error like this (which I assume is down to content already present within the publishing template):

[05/03/2015 14:25:45] [List] [wfpub] Progress: Importing

I'm therefore struggling how best to populate my otherwise empty publishing portal whilst ensuring that it has identical guids etc.

Thanks in advance
